How to Remove EXIF and GPS Location From Photos
To remove EXIF and GPS data from a photo, open Remove photo metadata, add the photo, look at what it contains (the GPS location, the phone model, the date and time), then click Clean images and download the clean copy. The photo looks exactly the same, without the hidden information. It happens in your browser, so the photo isn't uploaded.
How to remove metadata, step by step
- Add your photos. Up to 30 at a time: JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC.
- See the hidden information. The tool lists what it found: GPS location, camera and lens, date taken, software, author, copyright, serial number.

- Clean. Click Clean images.

- Download the clean copy and share that one.

What is EXIF, and why does it matter?
EXIF is information your camera or phone writes inside each photo: the model, the settings, the date and, if location is turned on, the exact GPS position where it was taken. It's handy for organising your albums, but when you send the file to someone, it goes with it.
A photo of your new flat, your child at school or a product you sell from home can tell anyone the address where it was taken, to within a few metres.
Don't social networks remove it?
Most big platforms (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp photos) strip GPS data from what they show publicly. But photos sent as files or documents (WhatsApp documents, email attachments, Telegram files, cloud share links, marketplace sites, forums) often keep everything. When in doubt, clean the photo first.
Stop recording the location
- iPhone: Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Camera → Never. When sharing from Photos, tap "Options" and turn off "Location".
- Android: open the Camera app → Settings → turn off "Location tags" (the name varies by brand).
This only affects new photos: clean the ones you already have.
Other ways to hide details
- Faces, number plates or documents in the picture: Blur images covers them before you share.
- Want smaller files too? Compress images re-saves photos, which also leaves the camera details out.
- Pictures with Content Credentials: removing metadata removes those as well. To see what they say first, use the AI image checker.
FAQ
Does removing metadata reduce quality?
Not for JPG and PNG: only the hidden data is removed, and the picture is untouched byte for byte. Other formats (WebP, HEIC) are re-saved once at high quality, which drops every tag.
Can I remove metadata from many photos?
Yes, up to 30 at once, downloaded one by one or as a ZIP.
Are my photos uploaded?
No, they're cleaned in your browser (iPhone HEIC photos are first decoded by our server in memory when your browser can't read them).
How do I check that it worked?
Add the cleaned photo to the tool again: it should say "No hidden information found in this image."
