You can edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint files for free without installing Microsoft Office by using a browser-based editor. With myoffice, you create a free account, upload your .docx, .xlsx or .pptx file (up to 50 MB each), edit it in a full editor, and export it back to Office formats or PDF from the File menu. Nothing is installed, and it works on Windows, macOS, Linux, Chromebooks and phones.

How do I edit a Word document online for free?
- Create a free account. Go to the sign-up page. No credit card is required.
- Upload your file. Drag the
.docxinto the dashboard, or create a blank document, spreadsheet or presentation from the "New" menu. - Open it. Click the file and it opens in the editor inside your browser, with fonts, tables, images and styles rendered as the file specifies.
- Edit and save. Changes are saved back to the same file in your storage.
- Export if you need another format. Use the editor's File menu to download a copy as PDF, DOCX and other supported formats.
Spreadsheets and presentations follow the same steps. An .xlsx opens in the spreadsheet editor with its sheets and formulas, and a .pptx opens in the slide editor.

Will my formatting survive?
Formatting fidelity is the main thing to check with any online editor. myoffice runs on OnlyOffice Document Server, an editing engine built around the Office Open XML formats (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx) that Microsoft Office itself uses. That is why complex documents, with styles, tables, headers and footers and embedded images, generally open close to how they look in Word.
Three things can still cause small differences in any editor other than Microsoft's own:
- Missing fonts. If a document uses a font that is not available, it is substituted. Layout can shift slightly. Check page breaks on long documents.
- Advanced features. Macros, some third-party add-ins and very exotic objects may not carry over. Standard formulas, charts, comments and tracked changes are the well-supported core.
- Round trips through other tools. Converting a file through several different apps before it reaches you is a bigger risk than the editor itself.
If a file is important, open it, scroll through it once, and compare the page count with the original before you send it on.

None of these is best for everyone. If you must work offline, LibreOffice is a solid choice. If you live in Google's ecosystem, Google's editors are convenient. What are the limits of the free plan?
Honesty about limits saves you a surprise later:
- File size: up to 50 MB per uploaded file.
- Storage: you will see a reminder around 100 MB. At 250 MB, new saves and uploads are blocked, but your existing files stay accessible and editable.
- Ads: shown in the dashboard to keep the service free, never inside the editor or your documents.
- Malware scanning: uploads are scanned before they are stored.

Can I edit an Excel file online without Excel?
Yes. Upload the .xlsx file and it opens in a browser spreadsheet editor with its sheets, formulas and formatting. You can then export it as XLSX, CSV, ODS or PDF.
Do I need to install anything?
No. The editor runs entirely in your browser on desktop or mobile, on any operating system.
Is it really free?
Yes. The free plan includes the full document, spreadsheet and slide editors, with 100 to 250 MB of storage. A paid Plus plan that removes ads and adds storage is planned but not available yet.
